Film equipment available in Costa Rica
- Cameras and lenses. Cinema and mirrorless bodies, cinema and photo lenses, monitors, wireless video, follow focus and rigs from the main rental houses in San José. See our camera rental in Costa Rica page for the current list.
- Lighting and grip. HMI, LED and tungsten packages, generators, dollies, sliders, cranes and the trucks to move them, with local gaffers and grips.
- Drones and specialist gear. Certified drone operators, underwater housings for both coasts, car mounts and a U-crane for automotive work.
- Vehicles and infrastructure. 4×4 fleet, production vans, make-up and wardrobe RV, studios in the Central Valley and streaming kits for live events.
Local rental or bringing your own gear?
Most commercials and documentaries can be fully equipped in Costa Rica. For very specific cameras, lenses or large lighting packages we combine local rental with temporary import. Costa Rica is not part of the ATA Carnet system, so imported equipment goes through customs under a temporary import procedure; productions registered under the film investment law are exempt from the import taxes. We prepare the inventory, deal with customs and have the gear waiting at the airport, together with the permits and the local crew your shoot needs.
Film equipment rental in Costa Rica: frequent questions
Is film equipment expensive in Costa Rica? Local rental is usually cheaper than flying gear in once you add excess baggage, insurance and customs. We quote both options so you can compare.
Do you deliver outside San José? Yes. Guanacaste, the Pacific and Caribbean coasts and the Northern and Southern zones are all within a day of driving; we plan the transport with the shoot schedule.
Can our DP check the gear before the shoot? Yes, we schedule a prep day at the rental house in San José.

Drone
Aerial shots are no longer just a nice extra, they’ve become a key part of showcasing any location in all its glory. And of course, when you’re shooting on location, the first thing you want to show is the big picture: the place, the surroundings, the action. An aerial shot captures the full atmosphere, placing the scene in its real-world context.
We know this service is in high demand ,and we also know that regulations in Costa Rica are very strict. That’s why we only work with certified pilots, fully licensed and ready to fly legally wherever it’s allowed.
